Christmas is nearly here, and what better way to celebrate than by having our annual Christmas party and dinner which was held last night at the Club. Just under 40 ladies enjoyed a delicious meal by our new chef, Raymond Norris. Festivities continued with an enthusiastic singsong of well known Christmas songs, led by Lynette Beatton who not only works behind the bar at the Club, but is a very talented singer and keyboard player. All in all, a great night.

A selection of pictures from the evening can also be seen by clicking on the photo below.

Our final Greenlees match of the season was held today with an away game at Haggs Castle. The course was playing long as the ground was wet and the rough was tricky and deep. Strong winds made the conditions even more difficult, but at least the afternoon stayed dry and even the sun managed to make a brief appearance during the afternoon. Unfortunately we were beaten in our final game. The final result was Haggs Castle 8.5 Greenock 0.5

Our penultimate Greenless game this season was held today with an away fixture at East Renfrewshire Golf Club. Despite it being officially the wettest August on record, the course was in great condition. So much rain had fallen recently, that the water level from the burn in front of the 15th green had risen so high, that water was cascading down and over the top of one of the foot bridges - something which the home players had never seen happen even in winter. Fortunately the rain stayed away until all the games had finished. The overall result was a loss for the Greenock team. East Renfrewshire 7.5 Greenock 1.5.

Tuesday, 25th August 2009

Today we played our last home Greenlees match of the season against the team from Lanark. With all the rain in the last week, the course was understandably very wet but the greens looked great and held up well. A couple of torrential downpours mid afternoon added to the testing conditions for all the players and gave new meaning to the term "casual water". The final result was a win for the Greenock team. Greenock 6.5 Lanark 2.5.

Our annual fun event of the season, the Captain v Secretary match was held today. Weather wise the evening turned out a beautiful one and great fun and merriment was had during the game. Even more jollity was had later, when after having a lovely meal in the Clubhouse, many golfing stories and jokes were shared. The overall result was a resounding victory for the Captain's team by 4 - 0. Click on the photo below to see a selection of photos.
